A 22-year-old American woman named Ashlee Burnett has triumphed over 58,000 competitors worldwide to secure the Chevening Scholarship, enabling her to pursue a master’s degree with distinctions at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.
Hailing from Trinidad and Tobago in South America, Ashlee was granted the esteemed Chevening scholarship to pursue her master’s studies at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom. She was among the 2% of applicants selected from the 58,000 applications to receive the scholarship.

Ashlee celebrated her achievement on LinkedIn, emphasizing that it serves as a reminder that challenges in one’s journey cannot deter them from their destined path. Through the scholarship, Ashlee obtained a master’s degree in Education (Policy and International Development) at the University of Bristol, achieving top honors.
Having earned her bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Southern Caribbean in 2021, Ashlee expressed that gaining admission to the University of Bristol was a dream come true for her.
During her time at the university, Ashlee also received the Bristol Plus Award, bestowed by the university’s Careers Service in recognition of her dedication to volunteering and efforts toward building sustainable futures while managing a full course load.
Reflecting on her experience, Ashlee shared, “One of my biggest takeaways from completing the Bristol Plus Award back in March was the course from FutureLearn. I focused mine on #SustainableFutures, which was an excellent complement to my current work on gender transformative education.”
Expressing her gratitude, Ashlee thanked the Chevening Awards and the University of Bristol’s School of Education for the opportunity. She also expressed appreciation for her supervisor, describing her as the ideal mentor every student should have.
